Job Description

Summary Organization's Summary Statement The University of Maryland Eastern Shore invites applicants to apply for a full-time, twelve-month tenured track faculty position. Librarian Rank will be assigned at the initial appointment to the position. This is a 40 hours per week evening position Sunday - Thursday 100 p.m. to 1000 p.m. The schedule during the intersessions and summer will be assigned.

Responsibilities

  • Provide and administer evening reference services in-person, by email, or phone during regularly scheduled evening hours while maintaining the print and digital reference collections, research guides and subject guides on the library website.
  • Teach library instruction sessions as assigned, using the integrated library system and multiple. databases as the library liaison and co-instruct the one credit hour LIBR 100 Online Information Literacy course.
  • Supervise the library services technician and work study assistants.
  • Maintain and provide analysis of library reference statistics on an hourly basis.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in library science or related degree from an ALA accredited institution.
  • Must have familiarity and experience using and searching online catalogs, discovery tools and electronic databases Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
  • Knowledge of library reference and electronic resources including the online catalog, discovery tools & databases.
  • Must have the ability to work closely with colleagues and library users from diverse backgrounds.
  • Must demonstrate a strong commitment to delivering quality public service.
  • Knowledge of emerging information technology trends.
  • Ability to conduct effective library instruction. Physical Demands
  • May require extended periods of standing, bending, sitting at desk.
  • May require lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and internally.
  • Requires operation of a variety of office equipment. Preferences
  • One to two years of reference experience in a school or academic library.
