Position Overview

arenaflex is seeking a highly motivated Data Scientist to join its Information Science group. This remote, full‑time role offers a competitive rate of $25 per hour and provides the opportunity to shape data‑driven solutions for both new and existing arenaflex customers. You will work alongside product managers, software engineers, and fellow data researchers to design, build, and scale robust analytical pipelines, predictive models, and data products that directly influence business outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply scientific methods to design, test, and scale reliable data structures, algorithms, and models that address complex business problems.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis, statistical testing, and validation to ensure the accuracy and robustness of data‑driven solutions.
  • Develop end‑to‑end data pipelines: ingest, clean, transform, and store large‑scale datasets using modern cloud platforms.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams—including data engineers, product owners, and software developers—to integrate machine‑learning models into production systems.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, research papers, and best practices in data science, AI, and big‑data engineering.
  • Identify and resolve data quality, performance, and reliability issues in real time, ensuring seamless operation of analytics services.
  • Translate ambiguous business requirements into clear, actionable data problems and communicate findings to non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Document code, methodologies, and results thoroughly to promote reproducibility and knowledge sharing across the organization.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (required) in Computer Science, Statistics, Applied Mathematics, Data Science, or a related quantitative field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Technical Experience: Demonstrated experience building and deploying predictive models in a production environment.
  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python and/or R; experience with PySpark, Scala, or Java is a plus.
  • Machine Learning Frameworks: Hands‑on experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar libraries.
  • Data Engineering Tools: Familiarity with cloud data‑warehouse solutions such as Amazon Redshift, Snowflake, or Google BigQuery, and with containerization technologies like Docker.
  • SQL Proficiency: Ability to write and optimize intermediate‑level SQL queries for data extraction and analysis.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills; capable of explaining complex technical concepts to business partners in a clear, concise manner.
  • Problem‑Solving Mindset: Proven ability to break down ambiguous problems, develop structured solutions, and iterate quickly based on feedback.

Preferred Qualifications & Additional Skills

  • Experience with Amazon SageMaker, Azure Machine Learning, or Google AI Platform for model training and deployment.
  • Background in time‑series analysis, forecasting, or econometrics.
  • Knowledge of data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker.
  • Exposure to A/B testing frameworks and causal inference techniques.
  • Understanding of software development best practices, including version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and agile methodologies.
  • Passion for the pet‑care industry and a desire to leverage data to improve the lives of pets and their owners.

Core Skills & Competencies

  • Analytical Rigor: Ability to design experiments, interpret results, and draw actionable insights.
  • Collaboration: Comfortable working in a distributed team environment, sharing knowledge, and contributing to collective success.
  • Adaptability: Thrive in a fast‑paced, ever‑changing environment where priorities shift based on business needs.
  • Ownership: Take end‑to‑end responsibility for data products, from conception through production monitoring.
  • Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying ahead of industry trends, attending webinars, and pursuing certifications.

  • Opportunities to lead cross‑functional projects and influence product strategy.
  • A clear career ladder that moves from Associate Data Scientist to Senior, Lead, and eventually Data Science Manager or Director.
